Eagles and Herons

This has been a pretty amazing birding weekend. We went yesterday to a bald eagle nest in Afton, from there someone directed us to a blue heron rookery, then today, we want to the most amazing eagle nest vantage point ever south of Sayre... Here are some of the shots along the way.

Our first stop was at a bald eagles nest in Afton. The nest is pretty high in the tree but with the reach of a 600mm lens, you could get in pretty tight.

You can see in several like this one, a baby looking out on the right by the tree trunk.

There were also Indago Buntings all over.

From there, we went on to a Blue Heron Rookery in Afton that we got a tip on from a woman at the eagles nest. I would say it was worth the drive, there are 5 nests and we saw at least one baby.

Look in this nest and you can see the baby sticking it's head out.

On the following day, we headed to a bald eagles nest south of Sayre PA. This one was so worth the drive…

There are 2 seven week old babies in the nest (about the size of a chicken) and lost of dead things

Mamma sat in the tree near by.

We saw this Baltimore Oriole flying around.
